during its first run (roughly 07-10) the lineups were really good and featured local talent that didnt play elsewhere

post-285 kent it is more corporate/bigger acts but honestly with the dearth of spaces relative to that time it's nice to have

yeah I sold my ticket to tonite's show because FUCK the so so glos. shitty band, shitty people

market hotel got shut down because of nypd entrapment, not a great look to be like "this damn venue reopens every 2 years." it's not easy to run an all ages venue that sells alcohol here, especially when you factor in noise complaints. look at how hard it's become for trans-pecos. they can't throw shows after 2am anymore

the original iteration threw some of the best shows I saw in nyc during that era... deerhunter performing microcastle, fuck buttons first gig in nyc, pissed jeans w/ the singer bleeding everywhere, death set/mae shi/muggabears (aka grooms)/joan of arc, titus andronicus amongst others. lots of white dudes, I know

I think the remodel looks cool, it's unfortunate how poor the sound is, but there's a new soundsystem in as of tonite

I was going to attend the twiabp show but fuck em (will still go for rozwell kid and then bounce), pissed jeans w/ shimmer, titus could be fun though they are a shell of themselves at this point

hopefully elsewhere is chill as well

in 2017 I will take what I can get for mid-tier, non-bowery venues (though I will admit brooklyn steel is surprisingly killer)

and for small joints we still have the glove, secret project robot, heck, silent barn, alphaville, h0l0, and these other little dance/noise spots which seems like they're gaining traction

ditto to all of that

cabaret law repeal is great and necessary, but there is a lot of other non-essential/non-safety-related stuff that makes spaces like this struggle

market hotel is absolutely not the best venue in the city, but I assume that was sarcasm

the thanksgiving croissant is a stuffing-flavored croissant filled with turkey, gravy & cranberry that all momofuku milk bar locations sell every november

i rode my bike to heck a couple weeks ago and it was pretty chill, reminded me a lot of punk shows back in florida. i've been meaning to check out the glove and some other places popping up around the bedstuy/bushwick border recently.
Nice day if it doesn't rain.

ya I was there. it was a little too crowded, but boy harsher was killer as always. they get better every time I catch em

I adore FlucT too (they were half the reason I ended up going!). it’s dope that you know Monica! small world
