already thought Pussycat was the cutest girl ever in her little scenes and was ready to marry her at "fuck you, you fucking pigs"
is this tarantino's cutest movie? lots of sweet stuff with the dog, a lot of the cliff/rick friendship stuff, the little girl actor complimenting rick, etc

It's definitely his most heartfelt outside of Jackie Brown

Saw this tonight. I hadn't eaten for like 24 hours so I was nodding out during some of it. Weird movie. Beautifully shot, good performances all around and overall I'm positive on it but it's not one of my favorites of QT's. Feel like the script was weirdly undercooked for qt and could've been tightened up. The pacing felt off and it kind of meandered too much at points. Still I kinda want to see it again with more nourishment in my body and feeling more alert.

Also the ultraviolence at the end was really uncomfortable and out of nowhere, even for a Tarantino movie. Especially since the rest of the movie was mostly violence free. It felt tacked on and unnecessary. Not sure I get what he was going for there beyond some cheap shock value and mean sense of humor about it all. I liked Hateful 8 more than this. Better story, better dialogue, better pacing. Inglorious Basterds is still the best of his historical genre whatevers he's been doing for the past decade or so.

in that PTA interview that just came out QT says that the concept for whole film/script started with the ending and he worked backwards from there

Saw this last night. Easily my fav Tarantino film since Jackie Brown. DiCaprio and Pitt worked really well together, and the rest of the cast were great.

This makes sense to me. It seems he needs to work up to these ridiculous violent set pieces as an incentive to write. I just wish, with this one especially, he reconsidered once he had such a nice breezy prelude mapped out.
There’s a way to use violence as blackly comic catharsis. Quentin used to know how, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown contain good examples. The Coens pull it off all the time. But I just don’t get why he needs to go so overboard lately, I don’t care if it’s a Manson family member, seeing someone burned alive with a flame thrower is fucking horrific and it’s perverse to be in a theater with people cheering and laughing at it. It totally colored the preceding 2.5 hours and left a nasty taste.
Leading up the disaster of a climax, this was one of his best. Damn Quentin, I dunno, film this shit to get it out of your system and then maybe leave it on the cutting room floor. I’m down to see a tripping Brad Pitt dispatch a few creeps, but this was something else.

I didn't mind it in this film, but the super-bloody shootout that climaxed Django Unchained always bothered me because it trivialized the realistically depicted violence against slaves shown elsewhere in the film.

isn't this like saying hitler's face being blown off with a machine guy trivialised the holocaust

yeah, i just, it's not a coincidence that the fantastical parts are fantastical and the horrifying parts are horrifying? the contrast amplifies the horror of the reality

sorry i'm not sure how sincere this post is since there's a part where SS soldiers shoot through the floorboards to kill Jewish families hidden beneath.
in terms of allegory i don't think there's anything more necessary than recalling Anne Frank to the general dumbass public

There's a lot of things I really loved in this movie and a lot of things I absolutely hated. No idea how to feel about this one. Gotta watch it a second time.
Stabbing me 11 times only pissed me off.

I saw it again this week. It felt significantly different the second time because I wasn't dominated by a sense of dread over what was going to happen with the Manson family murders (and my anticipation was that they would still occur). This time I was more curious to see how the three 50-60 year-old women seated in my row would react to the end (more calmly than expected, their big reaction was an "Oooh" when Brad Pitt took off his shirt on the roof).

i was just thinking how good Pitt looked on the roof and leaned in to my wife to say something and she was just like "yeah i know"
and THEN he took his shirt off
