That’s why I thought the rain was intentional because there’s just this darkness that has kind of invaded the space and it’s just really upsetting and then what’s the most upsetting thing that could happen in addition to everything else, it’s that Gene, his mentor, his father, now knows that he killed his girlfriend.
HADER: Yeah, he killed his girlfriend, he killed the love of his life. It’s always a fun kind of balance of let’s shoot it, let’s see if it works, but to be honest, all I think about when I see that scene is that while we were shooting that was when Henry went, “Hey, do you know this is the stage we shot Happy Days on?” In the middle of shooting that awful scene, he tells us about all that. And then, when I directed that scene with him, I was dressed for Episode 5 so I had that black suit on and the red on my face because we were shooting that in the next stage over. We were shooting the Lilly fight of her bouncing around the room, and they would set up, I would go over and rehearse with Henry and Andrew Leeds, who plays Leo, and figure out what we were doing and then I’d go back, we’d work with Lilly some more and then once we wrapped Lilly, I went over and directed that scene with Stephen, so, any behind the scenes footage I think I’ve got the blood all over my face (laughs). I wonder if Henry was just like, “What is going on in Episode 5? What is this episode?” (laughs). But yeah man, it’s really upsetting but you just have to be kind of true to the characters.Toggle Spoiler
something interesting in the mulaney convo which hader has also hinted at elsewhere is that the central conceit /setup of the show that he and berg “what if”d initially is something that hasnt event happened yet. which is sorta comforting that they are writing towards something.

trouble wrote:anyone else feel like they shouldnt have introduce the burmese at all? them being just filler so barry can have a shootout in a monastery was kind of disappointing. Feel like they still could have generated the same conflicts with Hank and his crew without it. Ultimately thought Sally's arc ended up way better than Barry's.Toggle Spoiler
worth it to me just because for a minute i thought maybe they'd have ester and barry team up and there'd be a huge battle between the armies and then barry just walking in and completely unceremoniously taking her out first was perfectToggle Spoiler
lol at the reverse shot of Fuches walking along, barely audible. And "...like The Best of Fleetwood Mac"
yesterday had some really strange and unexpected contrasts btwn barry and Got.
my wife was totally making fun on how dany was like talking unassisted from the top of that perch and the massive throngs of her army were hearing every word and then like an hour later Barry makes a bit of it.

God this was so good Reminds me of his vice principals got more daring after s1, only this was not as ballsy. Same feeling tho Beautifully directed and acted ep. winkler staring at the floor

Also, yeah, she has been absolutely phenomenal this season and to the extent I care about awards I'll be rooting very hard for her to be recognized for this amazing performance.
elizabeth olson gave an interview recently about how danerys was her personal audition nightmare story. not that the process was bad but that she had a terrible audition in part bc they hadnt decided whether Dany had an english accent or not and sprung accent work on her in the room.

Yeah he tosses it in right before he slams the trunk. I thought he rolled over the body for some reason. But I also thought Fuches was lightly blowing Gene's hair during that wide shot when he was whispering.
