it was nice that there was way less gratuitous booty shots and all around cheesy macho-ness in this one. just dudes and vanessa kirby having a good ass time. it felt like Mission Impossible: Monster Energy

they had the one in the prologue and i don't even think it was to have a gratuitous ass shot so much as it felt like they had to establish that we were in the F&F universe

which, yeah, point taken

yeah, i loved vanessa kirby. (edit -- not just cause she was great, but in part, too, because the last few f&f movies have really lacked for good character development for the women).

i also think part of what i loved about hobbs and shaw is it brought back some of walker-diesel dynamic that has been missing. someone a few pages back noted how the balance has been thrown off a bit without him, and I gotta agree even if i still love these movies. walker offered a chill-bro lightness to dom's self-seriousness. the rock is too similar to toretto for it to work as well.

That one ass was maybe the moment that most strongly anchored this to the main franchise. The visual language was quite a change otherwise.

but honestly this is what happens when you try to MCU-ify your franchise without much of a throughline -- different directors' takes on the characters. i don't think it's the end of the world, honestly, i am not exactly looking for continuity in the Hobbs & Shaw-iverse

insanely though, the same guy (chris morgan) has written every film from tokyo drift on. H&S is the first one that he has a co-writing credit on, shared with drew pearce

I'm reading that its either ryan or charlize. I'd be surprised if they're pushing charlize to this franchise so ryan makes sense.
I have no idea, I got wasted as hell before I walked in plus I had a flask of 8 oz of scotch with me so the last hour is a complete blur. the credits sequence is completely lost to me forever because I was busy cleaning up the drool mess on my shirt from riding a 150 minute dip
this was fun and I enjoyed it. I know it's a cliche to say this now but fuck it was too long. seriously me and phil were like WHAT? when it suddenly transitioned to samoa and we're like, shit this is another 45 minutes

pretty good, one of the better 3rd acts since the 15 mile runway, Idris was a great villain, alot of the motorcycle CGI of him was pretty rad

think it sits right around the middle of the Rock era of of the F&F franchise, dunno if I want Statham to be a full member of the team in 9, I think he and his sister should still be on the fringes of the story/plans

Hmmm after a day of digesting Hobbs & Shaw, I’d rather watch any FF movie, aside from maybe 4, over it. Too heavy on bad comedy and the chases and fights were stale. How many times did they do that ‘drop the weapon behind persons back, catch it, and use it’ trick?

I stand by my previous comment that Samoa and that complex as a setting was refreshing.

And I was waiting for the final post credit scene for so long thinking it was going to wander into a main franchise connection. How much Ryan Reynolds improv am I supposed to tolerate?

yeah this was decent in the hollow action movie kinda way but all the stuff that wasn’t crazy stunts and general mayhem felt especially perfunctory even by the standards of the genre. they way overestimated the chemistry of the leads.

they should just port over vanessa kirby to the main series and move on from this as a fun enough one-off

Well yeah but the studio and writer presumably doesn’t hate Vin Diesel. Even still, I don’t need Dom. Give me Luda or anyone in a post credit scene.

just explaining why this probably won't be a one-off, especially since it's making money. Rock wants a piece of the F&F pie, just as far away from Diesel as possible

Chris Morgan seems to think "the characters will continue to weave in and out" and that the 2 stars are "mature and also businessmen", so the Rock could appear in a few F&F scenes in the future. and they can always write them separate scenes, i guess

Yeah it’s getting messy and they didn’t really do a good job balancing Hobbs and team in Fate. On top of that John Cena is in 9. If the feud runs that deep, then they all probably hate that Hobbs Shaw happened and will undermine Rock every way possible going forward. Perhaps rightly

they should work towards Fas10 Your Seatbelt as a definitive endpoint to the main series with the current cast to keep everyone focused
