what are some good things to do in the city with kids aside from mall/monument stuff? my sister will be here next week with my 9 yo nephew and I'm trying to think of more fun stuff to do besides the obvious. jumbo slice and kite festival are already on the agenda

duh: the zoo, air & space, natural science. this is enough to fill a day

less duh: hains point (see the planes take off!), engraving & printing (kids love money!), spy museum? but that's all a guess tbh

this may not be the best suggestion for cj and kids, but I have to say that the free kennedy center millennium stage shows at 6 pm most days are so cool. I am legit excited for and planning to see the shows on sunday and monday, and we've seen probably half a dozen killer performances that run the gamut of genre

one thing I love about dc is how much cool free shit there is to do. if you're into looking at art or seeing weird music or finding a free market where everybody is super chatty, this stuff is not that hard to find. the 730dc daily email is a great way to find out about new stuff happening

yeah i'm not doing air & space or natural science museum during peak middle school field trip season. already saw maga teens today i do not need more than that. debating whether or not to go to the zoo w them, depends on the weather. is the building museum cool for kids? never been

imo building museum is great for babies and toddlers but older kids will not find much very interesting. the exhibits there are usually pretty dry and esoteric. the big appeal of the place is you can bring your young kid there and let them run around the big empty space

is it just me or have lyft/uber gotten a LOT more expensive here? i was thinking about lyfting in to work this morning and while i know it was raining, $22 is still a LOT for a 1.5 mile ride. the share option was $14. i feel like every ride is like twice as expensive as it used to be

Maybe the massive pot holes are keeping some drivers off the road so fares are going up.

Yeah definitely have noticed an increase in lyft/Uber fares. Has anyone tried cars2go to get around the city?

the maga children are making a strong showing this year. white house area is teeming with pimply losers in fascist apparel. haven't been over here much since right after the election so idk how it compares year over year but it's more than i saw two years ago for sure

omg lol https://littlesesameadventures.com/

Little Sesame has partnered with serenity cube company Getaway House and athleisure brand Outdoor Voices to plan a packaged “Wild Sesame” weekend in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21.

Tickets for groups of two ($600) or four ($1,000) include cabins, a full Saturday of outdoor activities — kayaking and group yoga, for example — drinks, live music, and open-fire meals cooked by Wiseman and Tenne. Wiseman says there are plans for large-format lamb and a Sunday breakfast that includes giant pans of shakshuka. An early bird deal ($100) includes a Friday night stay with a breakfast kit and coffee.

i'm breaking up with glen's. it should not take 20 minutes to get an egg sandwich on toast at a place where there are like five whole customers in the building. they used to have breakfast burritos you could grab and go and i ate one like every weekend for months but they don't do those anymore so my only option is to wait 20 minutes for a $15 egg sandwich. cool. not. bye!!

A paddleboard on the Potomac

You can’t escape yourself, but you can rent a paddleboard and paddle away from the society that made you. This is a good time to remember that no one is ever thinking about you because they’re too busy thinking about themselves. Take comfort that this means that no one cares about the weird thing you said, but that it also means no one cares about the cool, funny thing you said. We’re all on our own paddleboards of shame, doing our best.

how often are u this

louise and I did one of those getaway cabins last summer. they're super snug and comfy, but are small as hell. it's basically a kitchen and a bed. but the area where they are is very fun and cool and beautiful

We did one in July a few years back, and being in the mountains a bit meant it'd get down to the low 60s at night, which allowed for comfortable hot tub action since it felt "chilly" compared to the highs. To be fair I was gonna get in either way, since I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to slowly get stoned lazing in a hot tub that was within sight of the shenandoah river.
